York, NYJob Description: This position provides strategic
direction, oversight, and implementation of fundraising for the
metro NY area. They develop, plan, and implement all phases of the
metro NY regional giving program including the acquisition,
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects
across all external constituencies. The role manages a team of gift
officers and administration, providing innovative leadership,
monitoring progress toward individual/team goals, and creating a
culture of collaboration and trust that extends beyond the NYC
based team to the broader team of partners across AEA and the
University. Extensive collaboration is important as the role works
closely with campus-based fundraising and academic units to fulfill
unit and divisional goals and works in partnership with staff of
Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, special events, and the Office
of Multicultural Advancement based in the region to leverage and
support programming opportunities developed to strengthen and
deepen relationships with graduates across all life stages. The
Executive Director serves on the leadership team of Executive
Directors for the Central Giving Team and partners closely with
these colleagues to help strengthen the pipeline of prospects. They
also manage a personal portfolio of major and principal gift
prospects and donors from the region partnering with AEA and
school/college leadership on these high-capacity
prospects.Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus.
- A successful record of accomplishment in fundraising is
necessary and experience in managing major gift officers is
preferred ideally at a major research institution.
- The ideal candidate should have at least 7 years of successful
major gift experience working with donors and prospects at the
highest levels of capability.
- Candidate should have a successful history of managing and
motivating a team and working collaboratively in a complex
environment.
- Possess a working knowledge of the uniqueness, culture, and
geography of the metro NY market and ability to travel throughout
the region.
- A valid driver's license is required.Skills and Knowledge:
- Must be highly collaborative and have a demonstrated ability to
work successfully with external constituents such as alumni and
parents, as well as internal constituents such as administration,
fundraising colleagues, faculty, and deans.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing
deadlines and objectives is important.
- Requires the ability to manage and inspire, to be an
enthusiastic and strategic partner, exceptional communication
skills, and the ability to problem solve challenging
situations.
- Experience working productively in a remote work environment is
preferred.
- Proficiency in a CRM as well as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
including the ability to produce presentation quality documents, is
required.Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction, oversight, and implementation of
fundraising for the metro NY area, which also includes the
Philadelphia area.
- Develop, plan, and implement all phases of the metro NY
regional giving program including the acquisition, cultivation,
solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects across all
external constituencies, especially alumni, parents, and
friends.
- Manage, train, and mentor a team currently consisting of at
least 2 major gift officers and a coordinator, providing innovative
leadership, monitoring progress toward individual and team goals,
and creating a culture of collaboration and trust that extends
beyond the NYC based team to the broader team of partners and
colleagues across AEA and the University.
- Collaborate regularly and effectively with colleagues across
the AEA division, within the Central Giving Teams, and across the
schools, colleges, and units on core responsibilities, including
establishing and implementing donor and prospect strategy,
execution of proposals and gift agreements, development of donor
and prospect pipeline, coordination of senior leadership visits to
the region, and fulfillment of Central Giving Team, academic unit,
and divisional goals.
- Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and
prospective donors within the metro NYC area with an emphasis on
gifts of $100,000 or more but including gifts across a wide
spectrum from leadership annual giving ($2,500+) to principal gift
level ($2.5M).
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 60 donors and prospects and
achieve solicitation, close, and visits consistent with annually
established goals and assignments.
- Work in close partnership with Alumni Engagement and Annual
Giving staff based in the region to leverage and support
programming opportunities that achieve stated alumni participation
goals and associated annual plans developed to strengthen and
deepen relationships with Syracuse University graduates across all
life stages.
- Fully participate in AEA division and Central Giving Team
meetings including regular FAM meetings, quarterly and monthly
Central Giving Team meetings held on campus or via Zoom, and other
AEA leadership meetings with partners across campus.
- Serve as a senior member of the Central Giving Team and engage
fully in meetings and planning sessions as needed.Application
