provide leadership and direction of the Observability team to
ensure appropriate and reliable monitoring of our critical
applications and infrastructure in a rapidly evolving hybrid
landscape.What you will do:
- Drive and enhance the strategy for Observability for Gartner
IT. This includes acquisition, delivery, analysis, and
visualization of metrics, logs, and traces. Ensure the team is
collecting the right metrics at the right frequency and the data is
readily available/consumable for alerting, reporting, and
analysis.
- Ensure Observability strategy meets the rapidly evolving
requirements in IT at required velocity as we continue to increase
rapid adoption of new and modern architectures, processes, and
technologies.
- Directly collaborate with senior management and key partners to
understand business requirements, help drive alignment and
prioritization, and build thoughtful solutions to achieve
collective goals.
- Manage resource assignment and project prioritization for the
Observability team. Determine relevant KPIs to measure the team's
ability to complete work requests and projects in a timely
manner.
- Ensure tight integration of best-of-breed observability
platforms and seek opportunities to further enhance and simplify
service offering for our key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of dev, ops, and
architects to understand complex application architectures in order
to design an effective top-down Observability strategy for holistic
service visibility.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, design, deployment, and
advancement of the portfolio of tools used to provide
infrastructure and service monitoring of hybrid cloud/on-prem
environments. Ensure tools utilized are capable of providing the
critical visibility on modern architectures leveraging technologies
such as cloud, containers, IaC, etc.
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure we have metrics to hold
them accountable to defined SLAs.
- Design and maintain a robust strategy for alerting and
incident-based collaboration across the enterprise. Leverage modern
communication channels and capabilities where possible.
- Build and grow the scope and capabilities of the Observability
team with a top-down, service-driven focus. Ensure methodologies
keep pace with the shifts & transformations taking place within
IT.
- Ensure Observability team increases use of automation and
leverages a "as code" / DevOps mentality.
- Develop and grow a highly talented team of managers and
engineers, fostering a fun and collaborative culture of trust and
accountability.
- Identify new opportunities to influence decisions by utilizing
the rich data collected to drive positive business outcomes.
Utilize AI/ML opportunities to improve speed and quality of
insights.What you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related discipline,
or equivalent work experience.
- 12+ years of information technology experience, with a desired
7+ years in a relevant critical Observability/Monitoring leadership
role or similar position.
- Experience with designing and engineering solutions to monitor
critical systems and network infrastructure across a wide array of
technologies and platforms.
- In-depth experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog,
Prometheus, Dynatrace, SolarWinds, AppDynamics, Splunk, etc.
- Strong Experience with monitoring infrastructure in cloud
platforms such as AWS and Azure.
- Familiarity with LAN/WAN technologies and clear understanding
of basic network concepts / services.
- Familiarity with Unified Communications (VOIP, video
communications, telecom, etc).
- Strong understanding of workflow management and ITSM tools such
as ServiceNow.
- Strong understanding of alerting and AIOPs tools such as
PagerDuty, OpsGenie, BigPanda, etc.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and modern architectural
concepts such as cloud, containers, micro-services, immutable
infrastructure, infrastructure as code, etc.
- Highly-collaborative team player who can build strong
relationships at all levels of the organization.
