Job Description:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Habitat for Humanity New
York City and Westchester County will oversee all financial
operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning,
reporting, compliance, and administrative functions. This
individual will be responsible for maintaining sound fiscal
management, optimizing financial systems, and ensuring compliance
with applicable laws and grant requirements. The CFO will play a
critical role in supporting Habitat's mission of building
affordable housing in New York City and Westchester by providing
strategic financial leadership and oversight.Key
ResponsibilitiesFinance & Accounting
- Direct and monitor all financial functions including accounting
(Fund EZ, Financial Edge NXT, QuickBooks), financial planning and
analysis, cash management, investments, taxes, and banking.
- Develop and manage annual organizational budgeting, financial
forecasting, and multi-year financial plans in collaboration with
the leadership team to ensure organizational growth and
sustainability.
- Provide monthly and bi-monthly financial reports and analyses
to the executive leadership team, Board of Directors, and Board
Committees, ensuring tracking by fund, project, and
department.
- Serve as the liaison to the Board Finance, Audit & Risk
Committees and CDFI board ensuring strategic financial decisions
are aligned with Habitat's mission.
- Manage external audit processes, including the preparation and
filing of tax returns (IRS990s, NYS CHAR500s) and ensuring
compliance with financial regulations.
- Oversee mortgage servicing, including loan origination,
repayment, and delinquency management.
- Support CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution)
operations with loan funding, billing, collections, and financial
reporting.
- Collaborate with the Housing Services, Real Estate and
Development Departments to ensure robust financial tracking,
reconciliation, and budget oversight for construction projects and
housing development.Grants Administration & Compliance
- Oversee all financial components of government and foundation
grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with funding
requirements.
- Review and approve financial budgets and reports submitted for
potential and existing grants.
- Ensure timely filings for government administrative
requirements (AMIS, SAM.GOV,GRANTS.GOV) and ensure adherence to
City, State, and Federal regulations.
- Monitor financial compliance for all grants and provide
reporting and analysis to stakeholders, including
monthly/bi-monthly reports for funders.Human Resources &
Benefits
- Oversee payroll processing through a PEO (Professional Employer
Organization) and ensure accuracy in bi-weekly payroll cycles.
- Manage employee benefits programs and provide support for human
resources issues in collaboration with COO.
- Maintain personnel files in compliance with legal requirements
and organizational policies.Administration
- Establish, implement, and review organizational policies,
systems, and internal controls to ensure operational efficiency and
financial transparency.
- Negotiate and manage relationships with external vendors,
including banking, insurance providers, benefits administrators,
and technology consultants in collaboration with COO.
- Oversee office systems, technology (including platforms like
Microsoft Teams, Robin, OneDrive, SharePoint), and office space
management.
- Collaborate closely with the IT provider to ensure appropriate
systems are in place for efficient financial and operational
management.
- Ensure cross-departmental collaboration for streamlined
operations and effective financial systems.
- Lead, motivate, and support a team of finance professionals and
consultants, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work
environment.Qualifications
- CPA preferred.
- BA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in financial management,
including experience in nonprofit, affordable housing or related
sectors preferred. Strong understanding of US Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
- Expertise in Fund-EZ, Financial Edge NXT, QuickBooks, and
Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work closely with diverse stakeholders, including
board members, funders, and government agencies.
- Proven leadership abilities in managing teams, developing
talent, and fostering a culture of efficiency and
accountability.
- Experience with nonprofit tax filings (IRS 990, NYS CHAR500)
and understanding of federal and state compliance
requirements.Compensation and BenefitsBase annual salary band:
$160,000 - $170,000. Comprehensive benefits package, including
